Brett Coryell, Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer

Brett CoryellBrett Coryell leads the Division of Information Technology (DoIT) for Northern Illinois University’s four campuses. In his role as the vice president for information technology and chief information officer (CIO) he develops and promotes a vision for information technology where partnering with IT makes it easy to succeed. He has led the drive to establish an open IT governance framework, modernize shared services, and reduce costs across the enterprise.

The CIO directs the central IT organization, known as DoIT, and works collaboratively with other IT departments around campus to encourage and promote the development, implementation, and advancement of the university mission through technology. He reports to the President, is a member of the University Council, is a member of the iFiber board, and is vice president for IPATHE.

Coryell came to Northern from Emory University in Atlanta in 2014, where he served as the deputy CIO for nearly seven years. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Purdue University and a Master’s in Computer Science from the University of Virginia.
