Shah of Persia
Abbas I came to the throne in 1586, at a time when the Turks and Tartars were threatening Persia. After defeating the Usbek Tartars, he declared war on the Turks, defeating them at Bussorah in 1605. At the time of his death, the dominion of Persia stretched from the Tigris to the Indus river. He is considered one of the greatest Persian leaders.
