The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is responsible for all clinical placements made for secondary teacher certification candidates within the college. Students do not make placement arrangements on their own initiative.
Placements are made at the discretion of the Coordinator of Clinical Experiences, discipline coordinators and school districts. The Placement Office works closely with school districts to place students in settings which are appropriate for each clinical experience. These placements are made through the generosity of school districts and their personnel. For any number of reasons, a school may refuse to accept a student for a clinical placement.
Students may be asked to indicate geographic preferences for their placements. Because of the number of students requiring placement, as well as the goal of giving students a broad range of experiences during their clinicals, students may not be placed in their geographic prefrence regions.
For all clinical experiences, students must provide their own transportation to and from their placements. This may include a drive of an hour or more. While every effort is made to avoid a lengthy drive, there is no way to guarantee that your placement will be close to your home. Early clinical placements are usually further away than student teaching placements.
