Northern Illinois University and Women’s Studies Program are pleased to sponsor the seventh annual NIU Conference for Young Women. Scheduled for October 29, 8:15 am – 1:45 p.m., the NIU Conference for Young Women offers an exciting chance for female high school students to explore the academic side of college life and career opportunities for women. Please encourage students to attend. The event is designed to help young women understand that they can succeed in and enjoy college, as well as to offer them a sense of empowerment with regard to career possibilities in a variety of fields.

The day will feature:
– Tours of the NIU campus and Northern’s facilities
– Presentations by NIU faculty on topics relevant to women’s collegiate experiences and career choices.
– Panel discussion in which professors in such areas as communicative disorders and politics talk about career fields and professional opportunities for women.

The cost for the Young Women’s Conference is $33 before October 13, $38 afterwards. Lunch is included in the registration fee. Registration is limited to 30 sophomore, junior or senior female students on a first-come, first-served basis. The conference is open only to high school students. The day will begin with refreshments at 8:15 a.m. in the Lincoln Room of the Holmes Student Center. Sessions will begin at 8:30 am and conclude at 1:45 p.m. Students should make sure to wear appropriate clothing for the weather and comfortable walking shoes. To register, return the enclosed form with $33 per student by October 13 to receive the early registration discount. A limited number of scholarships will be available to those who need assistance with registration expenses.
