Ashley Berman is beginning her second year at
the NIU College of Law. She began her legal studies in Fall 2006,
immediately following her graduation from North Central College
in Naperville, IL. Ashley graduated from North Central with a Bachelor’s
of Arts in Organizational Communications and Political Science.
Although not a Women’s Studies major, Ashley did her best
to integrate her passion for women’s issues into her course
work whenever she could completing various research projects, the
most notable of which was a thesis entitled “The Rhetoric
of Mary Wollstonecraft and Its Place in the Modern British Feminist
Movement.” Through an ideological criticism of three of Wollstonecraft’s
most prominent works, Ashley sought to explore why Wollstonecraft’s
works have been a source of contempt for British feminists and what
the condemnation of Wollstonecraft’s works by British feminists
says about the contemporary British feminist movement. Following
her legal studies at NIU, Ashley hopes to pursue a career in criminal
law as either a criminal prosecutor or public defender. In her free
time, Ashley enjoys listening to music, creative writing, watching
movies, spending time with friends and family, chatting on AIM with
her boyfriend who is an Army medical evacuation pilot in Iraq, walking
her dog Sophie, and eating lots of junk food. |
