VOLUNTEERISM
Everyone
is invited to join the Northern Illinois University Women’s
Studies Program and the numerous other sponsors listed below for
Women’s History Month! Our main theme for 2003, volunteerism,
encompasses the lives of women in various arenas, including activism
in the pursuit of social justice, dedication to home and family,
and the balancing of career and family. All events are open to the
public and (unless otherwise noted) are free. Sign language interpreters
will be provided upon request; call 753-6515 (one week’s notice

7:30 p.m. “The Vagina Monologues.” NIU students perform
the play everyone is talking about. Holmes Student Center, Diversions
Lounge. Sponsors: Women’s Alliance, Student Association, and the Theatre
Department. A $6 donation is suggested; proceeds go to Safe Passage.

12:00-2:00 p.m. “In the Time of the Butterflies.” A film
exploring women’s participation in resistance movements through the true
story of sisters who fought against a Dominican dictator. Post film discussion
led by Kelli Lyon Johnson, a Ph.D. candidate in English. Reavis Hall,
